The classic four-color race with captures and safe squares — vs AI, hotseat, or online.

About Ludo

Ludo is the world's living-room race: roll the die, escape your yard on a six, and chase four tokens around the board to home while everyone tries to stomp everyone else back to the start. It descends from the centuries-old Indian game pachisi, trimmed into a rules-light family favorite.

This version keeps the table-flipping fun and removes the arguments: legal moves light up after each roll, captures send tokens home automatically, and safe squares are marked. Race against AI opponents at four levels, pass one device around the room, or open an online room so a distant friend can join your game with one link.

How to play Ludo

Each player races four tokens from their yard, once around the board, and up their home column. First to bring all four home wins.

  1. Roll a six to move a token out of your yard onto your starting square; a six also grants another roll.
  2. On each roll, move one of your tokens forward that many squares along the shared track.
  3. Land on a square holding a single enemy token and you capture it — it returns to its yard and must start over.
  4. Tokens on marked safe squares (and stacked with a teammate token) cannot be captured.
  5. Enter your home column with an exact count and bring all four tokens to the center to win.

Ludo strategy tips

  • Spread your tokens instead of racing one hero — one capture erases a whole lap of progress.
  • Get a second token out early; a lone runner gives you no choices when the dice go cold.
  • Hunt when it is cheap: a capture near your opponent's start costs them little, but one near their home column is devastating.
  • Park on safe squares before dangerous stretches, especially when several enemy tokens trail just behind you.
  • Count threats within six squares — that is the entire capture range until the next roll.

Ludo FAQ

Do I need an exact roll to finish?
Yes — tokens enter the final home column and reach the center only on exact counts, which is why endgames stay tense even with a big lead. Overshooting simply means choosing another token or waiting a turn.
What happens when two tokens land on the same square?
A single enemy token gets captured and sent back to its yard. Your own tokens can share a square, and stacked tokens are safe from capture — a classic blocking tactic on busy stretches.
Is ludo pure luck?
The die decides your options, but which token you move is a real decision: spreading risk, timing captures, and hugging safe squares swing results more than most players expect. Against the master AI you will feel the difference immediately.
Can I play ludo online with a friend?
Yes. Open a room from this page and send the invite link — you both roll and move on the same live board from any browser, with no account or download.
Why does the die feel streaky?
It is a fair random roll — streaks are just what randomness looks like in short games. The safe-square and multi-token tactics above are exactly how good players smooth the streaks out.
