These terms cover FreePlayBase: the site, the browser games, guide text, and related materials. By using the site you agree to them. If you do not agree, please do not use the site.
What this site is
FreePlayBase offers free browser board and puzzle games with local AI play, same-screen two-player modes, and optional online friend rooms opened by link. Local progress stays in your browser. Hints and AI moves are practice aids, not a promise that a move is best or that a game will go your way. Using the site does not create a coaching, employment, or professional advisory relationship.
Acceptable use
- Play for personal, non-commercial entertainment
- Do not use friend rooms to harass others or spam chat
- Do not scrape, redistribute, or embed substantial site content as your own product
- Do not distribute malware, phishing, or cheat injectors against the site
- Do not misrepresent FreePlayBase as a ranked lobby, casino, or downloadable app store
- Do not use the site to break applicable law
As-is availability
The site and games are provided as is and as available, without warranties of any kind. That includes rule completeness, AI strength, hint quality, room uptime, and uninterrupted access. We may change controls, add or remove games, rename pages, or take part or all of the site offline.
Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, FreePlayBase and its operators are not liable for loss or damage arising from use of the site. That includes lost local scores, ended friend rooms, time spent following a hint, device performance issues, or downtime.
Where liability cannot be fully excluded, our total liability is limited to the greater of (a) the amount you paid us specifically to use FreePlayBase in the twelve months before the claim (currently $0) or (b) USD $50, to the extent enforceable.
Intellectual property
The classic games themselves (chess, go, shogi, and the rest) are traditional rulesets in the public domain. The FreePlayBase implementations — code, interface, and original text — are our property or used under license.
Chess piece artwork is by Colin M.L. Burnett (Cburnett), from Wikimedia Commons SVG chess pieces, used unmodified under CC BY-SA 3.0. Local copies and license notes are kept with the assets under /chess-pieces/.
Xiangqi piece artwork (the hnz set) is from the open-source pychess-variants project by gbtami and contributors, used unmodified under the repository's GNU AGPL-3.0 license. The Xiangqi board grid is drawn in our interface code. Local copies and license notes are kept with the assets under /xiangqi-pieces/.

Changes
